This issue brings a big change for The Rivista: after 40 years of editorship by Guglielmo Cinque and Luigi Rizzi, they are passing the torch to Michal Starke and Pavel Caha. We are very honored to become the caretakers of one of the earliest journals of Generative Grammar. We’ll probably stay a little less than 40 years, but we do have lots of plans!

Under Cinque’s and Rizzi’s guidance, the Rivista has undergone some significant shifts to adapt to modern circumstances. Its articles became English-based in 1994, allowing for a greater mix of international authors, and moved to an online journal in 2014, maintaining an open access policy throughout. We intend to keep it evolving and adapting: we are exploring options to make it more \“web native\” and dynamic, we’re putting up a new website, creating a new workflow with an electronic submission system, evaluating the technical options to make peer reviewing more efficient, and more.

As for the articles themselves, we aim to retain a distinct flavor to this journal, though by centering it around a certain style of research rather than by geography. In the meantime we very much look forward to riding the Rivista with you through the rapidly changing landscape of academic publishing. We hope you will enjoy it too!
